On Integrity
You have my word, and my word is stronger than OAK! Quoted in the movie Jerry Maguire
On Attitude
Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful! Annette Funicello
On perspective:
Have you heard of the 18/40/60 rule?
“When you’re eighteen, you worry about what everybody’s thinking about you. When you’re forty, you realize that it doesn’t really matter what they think about you. When you’re sixty, it dawns on you that most of them weren’t thinking about you at all!”
Daily Devotional: The Word for You Today, October 31, 2013 entry
On the Mystery of Life:
The heart of another is a dark forest, always, no matter how close it has been to one’s own.
Willa Cather, The Professor’s House
Who am I? We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881 – 1955)
* What quote for the month can you add?
You comments are most welcome. I will always reply!
“When you’re eighteen, you worry about what everybody’s thinking about you. When you’re forty, you realize that it doesn’t really matter what they think about you. When you’re sixty, it dawns on you that most of them weren’t thinking about you at all!”
I laughed out loud when I read this. it is so very true. I am amazed at the things i used to worry about that were really not worth the space they rented in my brain. I could have lived with a lot less stress in my life if I had only realized this sooner. As usual, your quotes and pretty pictures always bring me joy Thanks marian.:) PEACE 🙂
Yes, we have to be very careful about the space we rent to thoughts in our brain. I love your twist here on expressing the need for a healthy thought life. Always insightful, always true, SK!
Love the second quote. And also the 18/40/60 rule!
I have a feeling we both know each of those quotes from personal experience, Joan. You end up with one rich life, as your blog declares! Thanks for posting today.
\”Trees seem so human in their being. They breathe, have circulation, eat, drink, grow, reproduce, work and rest and are among the most interesting living things on the face of the earth. Whenever we look at a tree we should think….it has gifts for us. Trees live to give. \”
Grandma Stoner …….found among her long forgotten family papers. Also referenced with the quote is a verse from the Bible, Deut. 20:18-20
What a heritage you have, and what a treasure trove that family heirloom is. I will certainly add that one to my own store-house of quotes. Grandma would be happy to know that her grand-daughter is constantly practicing the last line: \”Trees live to give.\” It reminds me too of that Joyce Kilmer poem that I\’ve always thought is rather trite, but fits the theme nonetheless:
Joyce Kilmer. 1886–1918
119. Trees
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is pres\’t
Against the sweet earth\’s flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day, 5
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain. 10
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
I\’m cleaning today and giving myself short breaks in-between tasks. This was a smile inducing break – THANK YOU!
Thank you for taking a break to read and comment too. I still smile when I think of that \”cereal killer\” husband of yours. We are all keeping an eye on that man, for sure!
I also liked the 18/40/60 rule! So true! I especially liked .one of your reader\’s phrase \”rented in my brain\” – at times, I\’ve felt those negative thoughts had a permanent lease!
Life is definitely all about perspective, but, of course, attitude shapes one\’s views. Annette Funicello\’s simple yet effective words caught my attention as well, so here is my quote:
I feel there\’s an existential angst among young people. I didn\’t have that. They see enormous mountains, where I only saw one little hill to climb.
Sergey Brin
I\’m always happy to see your name in the comment box, Gencie. The quote from Sergey Brin represents my era too. It seems that when I was young, I barely saw two feet ahead of me: Life without instant messaging and not even a TV, in my case!
\”We are spiritual beings having a human experience.\” How wonderful to be reminded that our earthly life is just a season that prepares us for the next!
I am always happy to see your golden locks and smiling face in my comment box. And I look forward to your Thursday posts: consistently entertaining. You \”rock,\” Traci!
My quote of the month is \”(Your blogs) … are as good as apple pie.\” Now I\’m not sure whether it was a Mom, an Aunt or a Grandmother, but certainly tasty treats.
Thanks for the affirmation, Mr. C. You probably partook of apple pie from all three.
Can I think like a 60 year old even if I\’m only 40? lol I recently wrote this one down during my devotional time (and as I reflect on my inadequacies to be a \”leader\”): \”You are a woman perfectly equipped to say yes to Him. Notice I did not say you are a perfect woman. But if you are in the thick of living with all that life throws at you and you simply whisper yes, you are equipped\”. -Lysa Terkeurst
Love the quote from Terkeurst, an author new to me. Yes, Jenn, you can think like whatever age you are! Thanks for stopping by with your comment.
