Welcome to Tea Toast & Trivia
Soon you’ll hear Rebecca’ s voice: “I’m your host, Rebecca Budd. I am a Blogger, Photographer, Traveler. Above all, I’m a life-long learner.” But first, an introduction.
Rebecca and her husband Don reside in Vancouver, British Columbia, where they create “Tea, Toast & Trivia.” The podcast is about exploring the creative spirit within a dynamic, ever-changing global world. Her goal is to encourage a deep and profound awareness of our personal journeys. There is always a story to be read, an adventure to be imagined, and an idea to be understood
Sharing a cup of tea signals a pause, a breathing space.
Toast signifies bread – the staple food that has been with us since ancient days.
And trivia – those seemingly insignificant details that we soon forget – they are important. They influence our actions and define our lives. (excepts from Rebecca’s “About” page)
Earlier this month, I had the privilege of being a guest on Rebecca’s podcast.
We chatted about all things memoir, particularly focusing on the power of memoir.
You can find her post with the recording HERE
Thanks for listening!
Good morning, Marian! You already know that I loved this interview. Rebecca and Don do such a good job, and you, of course, were excellent.
I enjoyed your extra tidbits here, and your red shoes ornament is great! ❤️
You are first again with a lovely comment. And you know I sincerely appreciate both appearances. Thank you, Merril! 😀
You’re very welcome, as always, Marian! 😊
I am so pleased that Marian joined me for a conversation, Merril! I agree wholeheartedly that Marian was excellent. Her honest, authenticity and humour inspire me. We live amazing lives. Marian reminded me that to honour our lives we should write about them.
I love that, Rebecca. 💙
🤗🤗🤗
I haven’t had a chance to listen yet, but I love those red shoes!!
I can no longer wear shoes with high heels, but I can enjoy them on a Christmas tree.
If you are like me, I listen to podcasts when I’m doing something else. 😀
Hi Shirley – you will love this conversation. Don and I had so much fun meeting up with Marion. She is a dynamic force that reminded me that the first step to writing a memoir is to start!!!
A great conversation about legacy, Marian! Great questions asked! I also had to take the driver’s test more than once! 😊 Love the quote you used about the wound and how readers can relate to what you’ve written.
Thank you for listening and for naming the things that stood out to you in the podcast. You know how much I appreciate your noticing, L. Marie! 😀
Marian is a marvelous writer!! Readers feel that they have been invited into her home with a warm welcome. I am so glad that you joined us, L. Marie.
Marian, like Shirley, I haven’t had the chance to listen yet either, and I, too, love those shoes!
Thank you, Laurie!
By the way, I’m part way through ILLUSIONIST. I must say, some of those characters are ruthless! 😀
I’m partway through The Illusionist as well. So good!
😀
Hi Laurie – you will love this conversation. I am so pleased that Marian agreed to join me on TTT.
Hi Marian. I enjoyed listening while I wrapped presents. 😊 I love the comment about readers connecting to the emotions you write about whether or not they can connect to your life’s circumstances. That’s it. That’s the key to a successful memoir (in my humble opinion). You spoke so eloquently. I wrote a review back then, and I’ll say it again, I found your story fascinating and know new readers will, too. ❤️
Like you, I like to listen to podcasts while I’m doing something else–often chopping veggies in the kitchen.
Thanks, Melanie, for your constant support and three cheers for new readers! 😀
I am delighted that you listened in to this conversation, Melanie!! What I like most about podcasts and podcasting is that I feel that I am being invited to join in on the conversation. I started to listen to podcasts when I walked back and forth from work. It was 30 minutes either way. I learned a lot over the years. Marian’s writing is inspirational. I was so pleased that she joined me on TTT.
I just listened to your conversation about memoir writing. I liked what you said about people telling their stories in their own way such as quilt making or art if writing isn’t their thing. It was something I touched on in my October blog post. Merry Christmas, Marian!
Elfrieda, I looked back to your October blog post and found this: “One of my sisters creates beautiful quilts for her numerous nieces and nephews. She tells the story through symbols.” One she pictured is in the process of being created for one of my daughters. Thank you for offering this! 😀
Thank you for listening in Elfrieda! Marian’s idea that writing a memoir could take several forms was brilliant! It is something that I am considering going forward in 2025. Marian has inspired me to take a huge breath and dive…….
I enjoyed this interview. Rebecca and Don do such a great job of these podcasts. I also love your shoe tree ornament!
Yes, back in February 2021, she interviewed you about your Amanda series. Since then, you’ve added more books. 😀
Rebecca is great at asking questions to draw out the best in our work. I agree!
Don and I had so much fun meeting up with Marian, Darlene. I had been looking forward to this conversation for a long time. This past year, I have been more involved in my mother’s health, but I am looking forward to entering my 7th season of TTT in 2025. I continue to learn as I go along. I think that I have already mentioned this to you but Mom really enjoys someone reading from your Amanda series. Many thanks for being a writer.
I love how you’ve promoted the Tea, Toast, and Trivia experience!!
Don and I had a lot of fun meeting up with Marian. Thank you, Liz, for your continued support and encouragement of these live-affirming conversations. It is very, very much appreciated.
You’re welcome, Rebecca. I always learn a lot from each conversation.
That’s what we do; it’s a joy to support others. You know this from experience. 😀
Thanks, Liz.
I sure do, Marian! You’re welcome.
A lovely podcast, Marian. Rebecca is so easy to talk too.
And you know this from personal experience, Robbie. Thank you!
I believe you are visiting Tokyo now–right?
Robbie – Don and I have so much fun meeting up with creators and writers. Thank you for your encouragement and support of life-affirming conversations. Isn’t it fun to be a part of a compassionate community that shares knowledge, experience and wisdom.
I commented on Rebecca’s blog before, Marian. You were as personable as always. I enjoyed your entire conversation.
Oh Pete!!! You captured the essence of Marian’s gift of communication with the word – “personable”. Marian’s authenticity, honesty and humour resonate with readers. With every page turned, friendship is formed between writer and reader. It is a beautiful feeling.
Thanks for the thumbs up both here and on Rebecca’s blog. 😀
Sounds like you had a nice chat, Marian! I’ll save it for later and hopefully find a peaceful moment with less pressing matters soon, to listen to it. And such an appropriate Christmas ornament. Is that yours?
You will LOVE this conversation Liesbet! Marian has a marvelous way of welcoming one and all to join in the conversation.
No worries about listening: Save it for later–you have such a busy life right now.
Yes, the Christmas ornament is a gift from several holidays ago. Though I treasure it, I don’t always remember to put it on the tree. 😀
Rebecca, you are so kind to followup with each commenter. Each one appears regularly on my blog. Thank you, thank you! 😀
🤗🤗🤗
Excellent podcast and so great to hear your voice, Marian along with Rebecca’s. Memoir writing is specialized in that there’s no ‘right’ way, since each person’s story is so different than another’s, and must be told their special way. I spoke to a quilt maker recently who told me she doesn’t know where her quilt is going to go (or be) when she starts. But she said as she’s working on it, a memory crops up in her mind, and that gets stitched into the quilt, telling a story. I found that fascinating and believe I (and many of us) write that way too. Just start (as you say) and then let the ink/keypad flow. The memories will take us to the story.
Thanks for letting me know your thoughts on the recording, so appreciated.
I really want to know more about that quilt maker–memories sewn into her needlework!
Pretty magical right? She had a display at a local library where I teach. I love her thoughts on creativity and memories.
If/When she publishes anything word-wise or with photos, I’d love to know about it. Thanks for introducing her to me. 😀
What a lovely podcast. Bread is an ancient food. I surprisingly found a recipe likely used by my Neanderthal characters 75,000 years ago. Who knew?
Heading over, Marian. Rebecca always does a beautiful job with these.
